wax dipping.

I decided to dip my card hexagonal pieces into melted beeswax.

And i think the outcomes are really really nice...

a little bit of metal.

Recreating the frames from the beehives...

new week.

So its a whole new week starting from today....and i'm hoping to have the majority of my work done by this time next week!!
A jam packed week of getting into the metal work shop, completing my design sheets and getting some of that dreaded business done!

confusion.

After my tutorial today i am more confused than ever! why why why does my tutor want to throw all these other materials into the mix just because they would be the easy way out?!
i dont want to do something because its the easiest! i want to do something because its what i want to do, and because it relates to my ideas.

ohhhh i dont know anymore.
hopefully the 3d tutor will be more helpful if i can get to talk to him tomorrow.

i have less than 3 weeks to have something made..... stresssss!!

lost wax casting...

So i have been doing some research and i'm thinking that the best way to achieve the outcome that i want is to try the lost wax casting technique.
i have placed an order for some blue carving wax and some carving tools... just waiting for them to arrive so that i can get sampling! Fingers crossed there is the equipment to cast metal at uni.
Here are a few examples of jewellery that has been made using this technique.

what i made from what the bees made.

I stripped the hexagonal wax shapes from the frames and manipulated it into these beautiful pieces!

what the bees made.

I think these are just beautiful!

Third and Final year.

Hello there, its been a while.
So...
The first 7 weeks of term have flown by and i now have 3 weeks left until the end of it!
We have to do a desk presentation of our work before we all head off home for our christmas festivities.

My work this year is all about Bees Bees Bees, i have been lucky enough to put on a bee suit and have a look inside a hive. It was very scary!

I started to base my work around textiles originally wanting to create large scale structural pieces to be worn on the body.

However with the development of my work, i am now concentrating on manipulating the bees wax and creating hexagonal structural jewellery using brass and possibly resin.
Its all been very fast and exciting so far!

Take a little look...
